Public School Enrollment
Connecticut public schools currently educate approximately 539,000 students. Over the past 10 years, the number of students attending Connecticut public schools has declined by 36,000 students. This is a decline of 6.3%.
However, the decline in enrollment has not been equal across school districts. The greatest increases in enrollment have occurred in some urban areas and Fairfield County towns. For example, New Haven, Danbury, and Stamford Public Schools have all seen increases of more than 1,000 students over the past 10 years. Hartford, Milford, Enfield, Newtown, and Monroe have experienced the largest declines, with each district's enrollment decreasing by more than 1,000 students each.
